Origin

Aftermarket replacement for the Xiaomi M365 integrated dashboard — solving the single most common e-scooter failure point Reverse-engineered by multiple independent Shenzhen factories; no single inventor Generic — most units ship under brand stickers (Bafang, Hanjie, JC-365, KUGOO, Ulip) but the underlying PCB and firmware are shared. Only OEM Xiaomi dashboards (~€60 from authorized service centers) Each other — Bafang vs Hanjie vs unbranded; price competition has driven LCD-with-bell variants below €25

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Genuine plug-and-play replacement on Xiaomi-protocol scooters — no firmware flashing needed for 95% of installs
  • Cheap — €15-25 for a functional replacement vs €60+ for OEM Xiaomi dashboard
  • Wide voltage compatibility — most units handle 24V-48V without modification, premium units extend to 72V
  • Integrated bell button on mid-tier variants — useful safety feature, especially on bike-path use
  • BLE-enabled variants unlock Xiaomi Home app for non-Xiaomi scooters — fault code reading, firmware updates
  • Standard 22.2mm stem clamp fits almost every scooter
  • Fault code display (E0-E9) helps diagnose motor/controller/battery issues without specialist tools
  • Color TFT variants now under €40 — readable in direct sunlight, much better than older monochrome
Weaknesses
  • IP65 rating degrades fast — most units leak within 12-18 months of daily use
  • Cold-weather lag is brutal — LCDs become slow below -5°C, near-unusable below -15°C
  • Quality control varies wildly between identical-looking units from different sellers — the same PCB can have completely different LCD quality
  • Bell button micro-switch rated 50,000 actuations — heavy commuters wear it out in 12-18 months
  • Connector pinout is NOT standardized — 5-pin vs 6-pin, and reversed VCC/GND in some KUGOO units will fry the display permanently if plugged in wrong
  • No real warranty — AliExpress sellers offer 30-day returns, branded sellers (Bafang, Hanjie) offer 90 days but enforcement is poor
  • Backlight evenness on sub-€20 LCDs is poor — dark corners, visible bleed in night riding
  • Ninebot scooters are NOT compatible — different proprietary protocol, requires firmware reflash
