Origin
Stromer was founded in 2009 by Thomas Binggeli in Switzerland (Oberwangen, near Bern), growing out of his Thömus bike business. The ST1 launched in 2011 as, by the company's account, the world's first S-pedelec with a battery integrated into the frame, reaching 45 km/h. It established Stromer as a premium speed-pedelec specialist and the ST1 has remained the brand's entry-level fast commuter for over a decade.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Genuine 45 km/h S-pedelec performance with strong, smooth direct-drive power for fast commuting
- Frame-integrated, removable 655 Wh battery delivering up to ~120 km range
- Connected OMNI ecosystem: app, GPS, smart lock anti-theft, OTA updates
- Robust commuter package — fenders, rack, powerful integrated lights, 203 mm hydraulic discs
- Regenerative braking recovers energy and reduces brake-pad wear
−Weaknesses
- Heavy at ~28 kg, awkward to carry, lift onto racks or maneuver when unpowered
- Gearless direct-drive hub has notable drag/resistance once you pedal beyond assist or with no battery
- Premium price (from €4,499) and ecosystem lock-in for service and parts
- Rigid frame and fork as standard — ride comfort relies on tires; suspension only via upgrades
- As an S-pedelec it is legally a moped in the EU (insurance plate, helmet, no bike-path access in many countries)
