Izcelsme
Epic 8 ir astotā paaudze Specialized flagmanim XC sacīkšu velosipēdam, kas tika laists klajā 2023. gada beigās 2024. modeļa gadam un turpinās līdz 2026. gadam. Epic līnija ir dominējusi krosa sacīkstēs kopš 2002. gada, kad Specialized ieviesa Brain inerces vārstu amortizatoru, kas atšķīra pedāļu spēkus no triecieniem. Vairāk nekā simts Pasaules kausa uzvaras, Cape Epic uzvaras un olimpiskais zelts nostiprināja platformu kā veiksmīgāko XC velosipēdu sporta vēsturē. Epic 8 ir nozīmīgs izlaidums, jo tas pilnībā atsakās no Brain — aizstāts ar parastu RockShox SIDLuxe amortizatoru — un palielina aizmugures gājienu no 100mm (Epic 7) līdz 120mm, ar 120mm SID dakšu priekšā. S-Works saņem RockShox Flight Attendant elektronisko piekari ar integrētu jaudas mērītāju, kas ir pirmais XC.

- Chassis blends efficient pedaling stiffness with genuine descending comfort and confidence — a true 'do trail stuff with a race bike' machine (BikeRadar 4.5/5)
- Custom 'Magic Middle' SIDLuxe shock tune gives a supportive, fast-pedaling platform without a lockout fuss
- 120 mm travel front and rear plus the slackest-ever Epic geometry make it far more capable on descents than previous Epics
- Top-spec parts package with SRAM Eagle AXS Transmission and integrated Quarq power meter even at Pro level
- First Epic with down-tube SWAT internal storage — tools/tube hidden in the frame
- Very expensive — Pro ~€9,500, S-Works ~€14,500; the price is widely called its main flaw
- 435 mm chainstays are constant across all four sizes, so front/rear balance shifts on larger frames (XL riders feel it most)
- Rounded XC tires (Fast Trak/Renegade) make handling feel twitchy in some situations and limit grip in loose/wet conditions
- Most bob-prone of its class in fully Open mode — noticeable shock movement during seated efforts on smooth ground; the digressive tune can feel odd when bouncing the saddle in the car park
- Stiffer, more reactive chassis demands more rider skill and effort to manage than the previous Epic; S-Works Flight Antendant battery charging must be kept on top of
