Algupära

Turuletulek 2014. aasta Tour de France'i eelõhtul kui maailma kõige kergem seeriatootmises olev maanteeratas. Trek eemaldas iga mittevajaliku grammi — nimi ise tähendab 'kärpima'. Jalgratas oli avaldus: absoluutne tipphetk kergekaalulises süsinikmaanteetehnikas.

Lightweight climbing road bike — Trek's lightest road platform
Tunnustehnoloogiad
  • Among lightest production road frames ever made — 690g painted, 660g unpainted (Gen 1 SLR)
  • So light it needs hidden ballast weights to meet UCI's 6.8kg minimum for racing
  • Evolved from pure lightweight (Gen 1) to aero-lightweight hybrid (Gen 3/current) with Kammtail tube shapes
  • H1/H2 geometry options — same frame, two stack/reach setups for different riding positions
  • Integrated cockpit, internal routing, disc-only (current generation)

Verdikt

+Tugevused
  • Exceptional climbing performance — one of the lightest production road bikes available
  • Excellent power transfer and stiffness despite ultra-low weight
  • ALR aluminum models praised as best-in-class performance aluminum frames
  • Current generation adds aero without significant weight penalty
  • Pro-level race pedigree — Tour de France proven
Nõrkused
  • Ride quality harsher than Domane — lightweight frame transmits more road buzz
  • Proprietary seatpost/seatmast can be finicky — creaking and slippage reported
  • Limited tire clearance compared to Domane — less versatile for mixed surfaces
  • High-end models extremely expensive for what is primarily a climbing bike

Ostumärkused

01
The ALR 5 is widely regarded as one of the best performance aluminum road bikes — at €1,799 it offers 105 groupset on a frame that many reviewers rate 4.0/5.
02
If you're not racing UCI-sanctioned events, the weight difference between SL (500 Series) and SLR (800 Series) may not justify the price premium. SL at €2,999-3,999 offers excellent performance.
03
The seatpost system is proprietary — budget for carbon assembly paste and a torque wrench. Creaking is the #1 reported issue and is almost always a simple fix.
04
No 2025 Émonda models found on 99spokes. If buying new, check whether a Gen 4 redesign is imminent — waiting could get you a newer generation, or outgoing 2024 models may be discounted.
05
Current gen (2021+) Émonda adds aero shapes — it's no longer JUST a climbing bike. It's genuinely competitive on flat and rolling terrain too.
06
If you ride with large tires or want gravel capability, the Domane is a better choice. The Émonda's tire clearance is limited compared to the Domane's 38mm.

Põlvkonnad

  1. Gen 12014-2017
Defined the lightweight road category; world record at launch
  2. Gen 22018-2020
Added disc brakes while maintaining low weight; Contador's 640g TdF frame
  3. Gen 32021-present
No longer purely about weight — added aero without heavy weight penalty. Acknowledged that speed = low weight + low drag.
