E-Bike — Find Yours

E-bikes aren't bikes with a motor — they're a new category. Bosch Performance Line vs Shimano EP8 vs Yamaha PWX. 250W or 500W. Bafang mid-drive or geared rear hub.

Bike Finder asks where you ride (city, forest, trekking), how far on one charge, budget — suggests 3 models with the right motor and battery.

Also explains why Chinese sub-€800 e-bikes from AliExpress are money down a hole.

FAQ

Bosch, Shimano or Yamaha motor?

Bosch — most common in EU, best service. Shimano EP8 lighter and quieter. Yamaha more torque but rare in Baltics. Long-term Bosch wins.

How many Wh of battery?

400 Wh — 40-60 km. 500 Wh — 60-80 km. 625 Wh — 80-100 km. 750+ — 100+ km. Depends on rider weight, wind, mode.

Cost of a decent e-bike?

€2500-3500 entry for reliable Bosch e-MTB or city. Under €2500 usually cut motor and 250 Wh battery. €4000-6000 premium.

Battery lifespan?

500-1000 charge cycles = 4-7 years regular riding. Bosch replacement battery €600. Yamaha/Shimano €500-800. Normal, not a defect.

Charge from regular outlet?

Yes. Standard 220V outlet. Full charge 4-6 hours. Can leave overnight. Some models embedded (non-removable).

Can I exceed 25 km/h?

EU law: motor cuts at 25 km/h, you pedal beyond. Below 25 km/h — no license, no mandatory helmet, no insurance. Faster — moped license needed.
