Origin

The 909 X is the most expensive hardtail in Whyte's lineup, featuring the same slack enduro geometry as the 905 but with the RockShox Pike Ultimate fork and SRAM GX1 AXS wireless electronic shifting — technology usually reserved for full-suspension enduro bikes. It represents Whyte's belief that hardtail riding should have access to the same premium components as full-suspension bikes.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • RockShox Pike Ultimate offers best-in-class 130mm trail fork performance
  • SRAM GX1 AXS wireless shifting is buttery smooth and maintenance-free
  • Same proven 64.5° enduro geometry as the 905 — no geometry compromise for the flagship spec
Weaknesses
  • Rigid rear limits descending capability vs full-suspension bikes at the same price
  • At £3,500, you're competing with entry full-sus enduro bikes — requires a hardtail conviction
  • 2.8" plus tires add rotational weight despite the lighter componentry
