Origin

The Jakar was introduced around 2020 as Megamo's accessible gravel entry point — pairing the weight savings of a carbon fork with a proven 6061 triple-butted aluminum frame. Named after a place, it follows Megamo's tradition of geographic naming for their gravel line (West, Silk, Jakar). The bike is made for riders moving from road to gravel without spending on a full-carbon frame.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Carbon fork meaningfully improves ride quality over a comparably priced full-aluminum gravel bike
  • 45c tire clearance and tubeless-ready rims give excellent versatility from road to gravel
  • Internal routing and flat-mount disc brakes give the bike a clean, modern spec for its price tier
Weaknesses
  • Aluminum frame transfers more vibration on long gravel days than carbon alternatives
  • SRAM Apex 1 11-speed (Jakar 20) is a solid but aging groupset compared to newer 12-speed options
  • Proprietary Megamo cockpit components may limit easy aftermarket upgrades
