785 Huez
Origin
LOOK is a French company from Nevers with deep road-racing pedigree, best known for inventing the modern clipless pedal in 1984 (the PP65) and for being an early pioneer of carbon-fiber frame construction in the mid-1980s. The 785 Huez was born from that alpine racing DNA: LOOK unveiled it directly on the slopes of Alpe d'Huez, the legendary Tour de France climb, just before the 2017 race, and named it after the mountain itself. Where LOOK's 795 line chased aerodynamics and the endurance range chased comfort, the 785 opened a third 'altitude' segment aimed squarely at climbers. From launch it came in two flavours: the accessible 785 Huez and the no-compromise 785 Huez RS, whose 730g frame let a full pro build tip the scales at 5.9kg, nearly a kilo under the UCI legal limit.

The verdict
- Sublime, compliant ride quality - responsive out of the saddle yet forgiving over long alpine days
- Genuinely light, especially the RS frame (730g); climbs and accelerates with the merest pedal nudge
- Elegant French aesthetic with clean integrated cable routing and lifetime frame warranty
- Non-aero tube shapes give away speed on flat, fast sections versus aero rivals
- Premium price for a like-for-like build; not the value pick against mainstream brands
- Disc versions add weight (RS disc ~7kg vs 5.9kg rim), blunting the pure-climber edge
