Origin

Dualtron is the flagship electric-scooter line of Minimotors, a South Korean company founded in 2005 and based near Seoul. Minimotors built its reputation in the late 2010s as the maker of the fastest, most over-built scooters money could buy, and the Thunder sat at the top of that reputation. Launched around 2018, the original Thunder was among the first consumer scooters to combine dual hub motors, an aircraft-grade forged-aluminium frame, full hydraulic brakes with a form of ABS, and swappable rubber-cartridge suspension in one package. It quickly became a benchmark 'beast' in the enthusiast community, praised as effectively bulletproof. Minimotors kept the name alive across successive generations: the Thunder 2 (2021/22) jumped to a 72V system and huge peak power, and the Thunder 3 (2023 onward) refined the platform with new controllers, better lighting and IPX5 sealing. The Thunder line remains one of the defining models of the high-performance scooter era.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Brutal acceleration and high top speed (up to ~100 km/h on Thunder 2/3) that few rivals match
  • Excellent braking and ride quality: hydraulic discs with ABS plus adjustable cartridge suspension
  • Reputation for extreme durability and a huge aftermarket/parts ecosystem
Weaknesses
  • Very heavy (43-51 kg) and bulky when folded - impractical to carry or store for many users
  • Expensive to buy new and to service; premium parts and specialist knowledge needed
  • Original Thunder had no official water resistance and a stem clamp prone to play/cracking
