Origin

Minimotors was founded in 1999 in Busan, South Korea, starting with motor boards and senior mobility scooters before moving into electric motorsport. In 2015 the company made history by releasing the world's first dual-motor kick scooter under the Dualtron name, which quickly built a cult following in the enthusiast community for raw acceleration and modular, serviceable engineering. The Spider arrived in 2018 as Dualtron's answer to a recurring complaint: the flagship Ultra and Thunder were monstrously fast but also heavy and awkward to carry. The Spider distilled the dual-motor, adjustable-suspension DNA into a lighter (~20 kg), more foldable frame aimed at riders who wanted genuine Dualtron performance for the daily commute rather than pure top-end. It proved popular enough to spawn a whole sub-line — Spider Limited, then the heavier and more powerful Spider 2 / Spider 2 Limited (2022-2023) with hydraulic brakes and 30Ah batteries, and the current Spider Max, which brought tubeless self-healing tyres, turn signals and app connectivity.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Strong dual-motor acceleration and hill-climbing (up to ~25 degrees / 45% grade) for a relatively compact scooter.
  • Adjustable cartridge suspension plus 10-inch pneumatic tyres give a genuinely comfortable, planted ride.
  • Lighter and more portable than flagship Dualtrons while keeping the same modular, serviceable engineering and parts ecosystem.
Weaknesses
  • Weak factory lighting on earlier models — most owners upgrade for night riding.
  • Original Spider has no meaningful water resistance (later trims only IPX4-5), so it is not made for wet Baltic weather.
  • Confusing model sprawl (Spider / Limited / Spider 2 / Spider Max) with very different specs — easy to buy the wrong generation used.

  2. Spider 2 (2022-2023)

    • Heavier (~26 kg) but hydraulic brakes, bigger battery, relocated controller for more deck space, IPX4. A real step up in power and stopping.
    Brakes
    NUTT hydraulic + E-ABS
  3. Spider Max (2024+)

    • Current model: tubeless self-healing tyres, turn signals, app, 30W headlight, IPX5. Heaviest (~31.5 kg) and most feature-complete Spider.
