Ultimate AL

The Ultimate AL was Canyon's original race road bike and the model that put the brand on the European cycling map after Roman Arnold's company rebranded from Radsport Arnold to Canyon in 2002. Built first in 7005 aluminum and later in hydroformed 6066, it carried Canyon's race geometry into the hands of amateur Bundesliga riders, sub-elite teams, and eventually consumers across the EU thanks to the direct-to-consumer model that undercut competitors by several hundred euro. The platform evolved through multiple generations alongside the carbon Ultimate CF, with the AL line typically serving as the entry point at €999-€1,799. Canyon quietly retired the Ultimate AL around 2019-2020 when the brand consolidated the race tier exclusively around carbon (CF, CF SLX, CFR), pushing aluminum buyers toward the Endurace AL endurance platform instead. Used examples remain common in the Baltic second-hand market as starter race bikes.
