VSF Fahrradmanufaktur was founded in 1987 in Bremen, Germany, out of the 'Verbund selbstverwalteter Fahrradbetriebe' - a federation of independent, self-managed bike shops that banded together because they were fed up with the build quality of mass-market bicycles. That co-operative, anti-throwaway ethos still defines the brand: they keep a deliberately small line-up, refuse to chase fashion, and only adopt a change once it has proven to be a real improvement for the rider. The TX-1000 sits at the top of their TX expedition series - the bike they build for people who ride across continents. It descends from the same lineage as their T-1000 hub-gear tourers of the early 2000s, and pairs the most bombproof drivetrain money can buy (a German-made Rohloff Speedhub on a Gates carbon belt) with a hand-brazed chromoly frame designed to be repairable anywhere in the world.
