Race — stiff, aggressive geometry, short fast rides. Endurance — higher bar, softer frame, 50+ km. Beginner: endurance.

Carbon lighter, smoother, pricier. Alu stiffer, cheaper, more durable on rough roads. Under €1500 almost always alu.

Disc or rim brakes?

Disc is standard since 2020+. Better in rain. Rim cheaper, lighter by grams. Get disc for new bike.

Cost of a decent road bike?

€1200-1800 alu endurance with Shimano 105. €2500-4000 carbon Ultegra. €5000+ Di2 top spec.

How many speeds?

Modern standard 11 or 12. 11s — 105, Ultegra. 12s — Dura-Ace, new Ultegra, SRAM Rival/Force.

Gravel or classic road?

Gravel = asphalt + dirt, wider tyres. Road = only asphalt, faster. Lots of gravel in Baltics — gravel.
