Origin

The FX+ 2 launched in 2023 as Trek's mainstream answer to the wave of European lightweight commuter e-bikes from VanMoof, Cowboy, and Ribble. Instead of a heavy mid-drive, Trek went with the Hyena HyDrive rear hub motor — 250 W nominal, 40 Nm of torque, integrated 250 Wh battery in the downtube — to keep the bike around 18 kg, an outlier weight in the city e-bike segment. It ships with integrated fenders, rear rack, headlight, and taillight, and uses 700c wheels with 40 mm reflective-sidewall tires. The Hyena Rider Assistant app lets owners tune motor output per assist level and track rides. Pricing starts at €2,499 in Europe, making it the affordable counterpart to the carbon, TQ-powered FX+ 7 higher up the range.

Who it’s for

Urban commuter or first-time e-bike buyer who wants city utility (rack, lights, fenders) in a bike light enough to carry up apartment stairs — not a hill-climbing power user.
