Specialized Turbo Vado SL
Origin
The Turbo Vado SL launched in 2020 as Specialized's lightweight urban e-bike answer to the Levo SL — same SL motor platform, but configured for commuting, fitness, and credit-card touring rather than singletrack. The first generation used the SL 1.1 motor (35 Nm) with a 320 Wh internal battery and a 17 kg curb weight that genuinely changed perceptions of what an e-bike could feel like to pedal. The Vado SL 2, launched in late 2024, upgraded to the SL 1.2 motor (50 Nm, 320 W) and a larger 520 Wh internal battery while maintaining sub-20 kg alloy weights and a remarkable 14.9 kg for the new carbon 6.0 trim. The flagship S-Racing LTD (€9,999) adds GRX gravel componentry and styling cues from Specialized's racing program, blurring the line between commuter and drop-bar e-bike. The Vado SL platform pioneered the "e-bike that pedals like a bike" segment that Trek (FX+), Cannondale (Treadwell Neo), and most major brands eventually entered.
