Specialized Epic 8
Origin
The Epic 8 is the eighth generation of Specialized's flagship XC race bike, launched in late 2023 for the 2024 model year and continuing into 2026. The Epic line has dominated cross-country racing since 2002, when Specialized introduced the Brain inertia-valve shock that distinguished pedaling forces from impacts. Over a hundred World Cup wins, Cape Epic victories and an Olympic gold cemented the platform as the most successful XC bike in the sport's history. The Epic 8 is a landmark release because it kills the Brain entirely — replaced by a conventional RockShox SIDLuxe shock — and grows rear travel from 100mm (Epic 7) to 120mm, with a 120mm SID fork up front. The S-Works gets RockShox Flight Attendant electronic suspension with integrated power meter, a first for XC.
