Origin

Launched in 2020, the Xiaomi 1S was built to fix the main complaints about the wildly popular original M365. It brought the LCD dashboard down from the expensive Pro model, upgraded the rear brake to a 120 mm disc for better stopping power, and reinforced the folding latch. Positioned as the affordable 'Standard' tier between the Essential and Pro 2, it quickly became the default first-scooter recommendation across the market.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Excellent value — strong performance-to-price ratio, long the default 'first electric scooter' recommendation.
  • Lightweight at 12.5 kg and easy single-lever fold, making it genuinely portable.
  • 8.5" pneumatic tires plus reinforced folding latch give a comfortable, confidence-inspiring ride.
  • Clear stem-mounted LCD dashboard with 3 ride modes, cruise control and Mi Home app — features once reserved for the Pro tier.
  • Powerful front LED light and rear brake light with upgraded reflectors improve night visibility.
Weaknesses
  • Modest 25 km/h top speed and ~18-22 km real-world range fall short of higher-tier models.
  • No suspension — rigid frame is harsh on broken pavement, relying solely on the tires.
  • Only IP54 splash resistance — not safe in heavy rain or through puddles.
  • 100 kg max load and weak 250 W motor struggle with heavier riders and steep hills despite the 14% grade claim.
  • Mi Home app is basic compared with rivals, and the platform is slightly smaller than the Pro 2's.
