Randonneur
Origin
vsf fahrradmanufaktur was founded in 1994 in Bremen, northern Germany, growing out of the 'Verbund Service und Fahrrad' cooperative of independent bike dealers who wanted durable, no-nonsense touring bikes built to a standard rather than a price. The brand became one of Germany's most respected makers of expedition and trekking machines, favoured by long-distance tourers and world-cyclists for over-built frames and sensibly specced, easily serviceable components. The Randonneur line applies that touring DNA to a drop-bar, road-style platform: a double-butted CrMo steel frame with the classic 'randonneur' geometry that French long-distance riders standardised in the early 20th century — relaxed enough for all-day comfort, sporty enough to keep pace. It is a bike built to be ridden loaded, in bad weather, for decades.

The verdict
- Exceptionally durable, comfortable double-butted CrMo steel frame — built for years of hard, loaded use
- Fully equipped from the factory (dynamo lights, fenders, rack, kickstand) — genuinely ready to tour or commute
- German build quality with sensible, serviceable Shimano components and quality German-made Schurmann rims
- Heavy for a drop-bar bike (~13.5-15 kg) — not a fast, sporty gravel/road racer
- Limited tyre clearance (~35-40 mm) — more all-road/light-gravel than true rough-terrain gravel bike
- Premium price for the spec level; you pay for the frame, equipment and durability, not for outright performance

- Lightest, sportiest disc trim; premium road groupset; ~13.5 kg. The performance pick.

- Rim-brake, more classic touring bias; simplest to service in remote areas; the traditionalist pick.
