TernVerge

Origin
The Verge line was Tern's proof that a folding bike could be fast. Since its 2012 debut it has evolved into a genuine performance machine, with the Verge X11 sporting SRAM Force components, a carbon crankset, and 451 mm wheels — the larger folding-wheel standard that gives a noticeably more road-bike-like ride. At 10.2 kg it is lighter than many full-size road bikes.

The verdict
+Strengths
- 10.2 kg and 10-second fold make it the most capable performance folder in Tern's lineup
- 451 mm wheels deliver a road-bike ride quality rarely found in folders
- SRAM Force 1 drivetrain is robust and covers a wide gear range for commuting and sport riding
−Weaknesses
- 451 tyre selection is more limited than standard 700c or 406 mm folding-bike tyres
- High price point for a commuter — more than many equivalent full-size road bikes
- Folded size (38 x 80 x 74 cm) is slightly bulkier than 406 mm wheel folders due to larger wheels
