Origin
The Bronson debuted in 2013 as Santa Cruz's first 27.5"/650b trail bike, helping push the industry toward mid-sized wheels. It is named after Bronson Street, the location of Santa Cruz Bicycles' former headquarters. It quickly became the brand's do-it-all all-mountain flagship and a Santa Cruz Syndicate Enduro World Series race weapon.

The verdict
+Strengths
- Excellent, confident descending — balanced even with the smaller rear wheel
- Plush, well-damped and predictable VPP suspension that stays composed on big hits
- Strong technical-climbing traction; still pedals well for its travel and intent
- High 'livability' — easy to work on, thoughtful linkage/shock hardware, top-tier fit and finish
- Mullet wheels add playfulness and quick rear-end maneuverability
−Weaknesses
- More chainslap noise than rivals, especially on bigger hits with the AXS derailleur cage
- Geometry flip chip is awkward to reach, and the shock is fiddly to reinstall (mount bearings fall off the eyelets)
- Stock SRAM G2 brakes lack outright power for the bike's gravity ambitions — Code would suit better
- Premium pricing; CC builds get expensive fast for what is incremental development
- Identity blur — heavy/capable enough that some reviewers say it is 'not really a trail bike'
