KQi3 Max
Origin
NIU (Niu Technologies) is a Chinese electric-mobility company founded in 2014 in Beijing, best known for its smart electric mopeds and scooters that became a common sight in European cities. Listed on the Nasdaq in 2018, NIU built its reputation on connected, app-driven two-wheelers with a strong design language and reliable batteries. The company entered the standing kick-scooter market with the KQi series, and the KQi3 line — launched around 2022 — quickly became one of the best-reviewed commuter platforms on the market. The KQi3 Max is the top of that line: where the KQi3 Sport and KQi3 Pro target budget and mid commuters, the Max adds a bigger 608.4 Wh battery and an upgraded 450W/900W-peak motor for longer range and more confident hill climbing, aimed at riders who want NIU's build quality with more distance and load capacity.
Specifications
- Weight
- kg
- Brakes
- Dual mechanical disc brakes (front + rear) plus regenerative rear e-brake
The verdict
- Excellent build quality and a smooth, stable ride thanks to the wide self-healing tires
- Genuinely useful long range for a commuter (up to ~65 km claimed) plus strong load capacity (120 kg)
- Polished companion app, OTA updates, IP54 weather resistance and a solid warranty
- Heavy at 21 kg — awkward to carry up stairs or lift into a car
- No suspension, so bigger bumps and cobbles are felt directly
- EU/PT units are speed-limited to 25 km/h; the extra motor mostly shows in torque/hills, not top speed
Generations
KQi3 Sport (lower line)
- Entry KQi3 — shorter range, lighter; not the Max.
KQi3 Pro (mid line)
- Popular mid model, ~50 km claimed; a step below Max on battery/motor.
KQi3 Max (top line)
- Biggest battery and motor of the KQi3 family — the long-range, higher-load option.
