Origin

The Nishiki Colorado has been the cornerstone of the modern Nishiki lineup since Dick's Sporting Goods relaunched the brand in 2010. Positioned squarely at the entry-level trail market, it is manufactured by Accell Group and sold exclusively through Dick's and affiliated outlets. The Colorado spans two wheel-size tiers: 27.5" on smaller frames and 29" on medium through extra-large, reflecting the shift from 26" standards across the industry.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Disc brakes (mechanical or hydraulic) at an entry price make it genuinely trail-safe in wet conditions
  • Size-specific wheel choice (27.5/29) gives smaller riders proper standover without compromising rolling efficiency
  • MicroShift 1x11 on the Comp variant provides modern wide-range gearing rare in this price bracket
Weaknesses
  • Weight of ~34-39 lbs is notably heavy — limits climbing aggressiveness and handling responsiveness
  • Brand-unknown hydraulic brake calipers (C-STAR) raise long-term reliability questions vs name-brand alternatives
  • Sold exclusively at Dick's Sporting Goods — limited access to professional fitting, assembly quality varies by store
