Origin

The Rift Zone debuted in 2019 as Marin's best-selling and critically acclaimed trail full-suspension platform, built around 140–150mm of travel and modern trail geometry shaped in the fire of NorCal singletrack. By 2025 it had grown into a full family from budget alloy to carbon race builds, all sharing the same progressive DNA.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Slack, confidence-inspiring trail geometry tuned on real NorCal terrain
  • Growing wheel size matching riders to the right wheel diameter per frame size
  • Excellent value: well-specced components at every price point
Weaknesses
  • MultiTrac suspension prioritizes pedaling efficiency over deep small-bump sensitivity
  • Stock tires on lower-tier builds can limit grip before the chassis does
  • Rear end stiffness is typical of platform-suspension — not as supple as high-pivot designs
