795 Blade RS

Origin

Look, the French manufacturer that pioneered the clipless pedal in 1984, redesigned the 795 Blade RS from the ground up (latest generation announced 2023, building on the 2019 model). The new frame borrows aerodynamic know-how from Look's T20 track bike and was developed and proven on the UCI World Tour with Team Cofidis. Unusually for its category, Look deliberately rejected maximum aero in favour of what it calls 'efficiency' — a stiffer, lighter, climb-friendly aero bike.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Exceptionally stiff and efficient — feels fast on flats AND climbs better than most aero bikes
  • Light and responsive handling, confidence-inspiring and stable at speed
  • Modular two-piece Look Combo cockpit makes fit adjustment easier than fully one-piece aero bars
  • T47 bottom bracket and UHM carbon layup deliver excellent power transfer
  • Clean full integration (cables, seatpost, bottle placement) with quality outfront mount
Weaknesses
  • Stiff, harsh ride over rough roads — significant road jolts cause more fatigue on long rides; tuned for smooth pro-race tarmac
  • Measured weight (~7.4 kg) falls short of Look's claimed 7 kg target for a medium build
  • Saddle leveling and the D-post seatpost binder are fiddly; binder cover is easily lost
  • Geometry charts don't fully convey how long and low the actual riding position is
  • Premium pricing (~€9,790, up to €13,999 for 2026 Iconic flagship); proprietary cockpit limits aftermarket bar choice
