Origin

Kugoo is the electric-scooter brand of Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen Kugoo Technology, which rose in the late-2010s wave of budget Chinese scooters sold across Europe through gadget importers (Geekbuying, Banggood, GearBest) rather than a traditional dealer network. The Kirin S1 line became one of the brand's best-known entry points: a small, sub-13 kg folding scooter priced well below Xiaomi and Ninebot, aimed at people who wanted a first commuter without spending several hundred euros more. To dodge trademark and import friction in the EU the brand later rebranded to 'KuKirin', so newer stock and spare parts often carry the KuKirin name for the same hardware. The S1 Plus sits in a crowded, confusingly-named family (S1, S1 Pro, S1 Max, S3, S3 Pro) where retailers frequently copy-paste each other's spec sheets, which is exactly why buyers should verify the pack size and tyre type on the actual unit.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Very light and genuinely portable (~12.5 kg) with a quick fold
  • Puncture-proof solid honeycomb tyres - almost zero maintenance
  • Cheap entry price and dual suspension unusual at this cost
Weaknesses
  • Undersized 270Wh battery - real range falls well short of claims
  • Solid tyres transmit more road buzz than pneumatic tyres
  • Basic display, no cruise control / no odometer on some units
