Origin

Launched in 2018 as the electrified version of KTM's hardtail MTB platform, the Macina Team quickly became a core product in the range. The 2024 generation integrates Bosch's Gen.4 CX Smart System — connecting to the eBike Flow app for ride data and range predictions. The XL variant carries a system weight limit of 178 kg, making it one of the few e-MTBs explicitly designed for heavier riders. Shimano Linkglide drivetrain (wear-resistant chainring and cassette profiles) was adopted to extend service intervals under heavy e-bike use.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Bosch CX 85 Nm motor is the benchmark in e-MTB assist — powerful, smooth and app-connected
  • Shimano Linkglide drivetrain resists wear better than standard drivetrains under e-bike torque
  • 120 mm RockShox fork provides enough travel for spirited trail riding
Weaknesses
  • 10-speed Deore Linkglide has narrower gear range than 12-speed alternatives
  • Tektro 4-piston brakes are adequate but step down from Shimano hydraulic quality
  • Hardtail platform transmits rough trail hits to the rider — full suspension e-MTBs are more comfortable on technical terrain
