Macina Race

e-road
01

Origin

The Macina Race was introduced in 2019 as KTM's attempt at a light e-road/e-MTB crossover — a bike that doesn't sacrifice trail capability for weight savings. The 2024 generation adopted Bosch's Performance Line SX motor: a compact 55 Nm unit that weighs ~2.9 kg vs the CX's ~3.2 kg, pushing the complete bike below 20 kg. Electronic Di2 shifting on the Macina Race SX 10 is unusual in the class — Shimano CUES Di2 brings reliable e-shifting to a budget-friendly e-MTB hardtail.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Bosch SX motor keeps total weight under 20 kg — dramatically lighter feel than CX-powered e-MTBs
  • Shimano CUES Di2 electronic shifting is a genuine premium feature at this price
  • Maxxis Rekon Race tires are well-matched to the XC/light-trail use case
Weaknesses
  • 55 Nm (SX) vs 85 Nm (CX) — noticeably less grunt on steep, slow climbs
  • 400 Wh battery gives shorter range than 750 Wh competitors — approx. 50-80 km in mixed terrain
  • 100 mm fork travel limits the bike on more aggressive trail terrain
