P-Series
Origin
The P-Series was launched in 2019 as Cervelo's accessible bridge between the road and triathlon ranges — using the lessons learned developing the P5 (the World-Tour-fastest TT bike) but with conventional D-shape steerer plus round stem interface, so riders can run their own basebar and extensions rather than the P5's proprietary cockpit. The 2024 update kept that philosophy but added internal frame storage (a Cervelo first on a tri bike at this price), increased wheel/tyre clearance, and refined cable routing. Cervelo raised the 2025 base price by roughly $1,000 over 2024 but the bike remains the brand's best-value way into a real triathlon-specific platform — popular with 70.3 racers, age-groupers stepping up from a road bike with clip-ons, and time-trial newcomers.
Specifications
- Frame
- All-carbon aero frame, full-rider system tested via the P5 wind-tunnel program; D-shape steerer with a round/standard stem interface so any basebar + extensions can be fitted. 2024 redesign added internal frame storage and clearance for 29 mm tyres.
- Weight
- kg
- Drivetrain
- Build-dependent: base Shimano 105 R7100 mechanical 2x12 (52/36T crankset, 170 mm cranks standard); up to Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic 12-speed on premium builds. FSA BBright bottom bracket.
- Brakes
- Hydraulic disc brakes (flat-mount), routing integrated into frame and fork for aero. Earlier Ultegra Disc build used TRP aero brake levers.
- Wheels
- Build-dependent: base = Vision Team i23 Disc alloy (23 mm internal, tubeless-ready, centerlock 12x142 mm); Race build = Reserve 63 rear (24.4 mm internal) + Reserve 52 front (25.4 mm internal) carbon, tubeless-ready, centerlock.
The verdict
- Inherits P5 aerodynamics and wind-tunnel development at roughly half the price — genuine race-fast platform
- Non-proprietary, hugely adjustable cockpit (own basebar/extensions, ~12 armrest positions) — easy to fit and tune without special parts
- Forgiving, fit-friendly geometry (75-79° seat angle) that suits a wide range of riders and stays comfortable on long days
- Stable, confidence-inspiring handling in crosswinds
- 2024 update adds internal frame storage and 29 mm tyre clearance — practical and faster on rough roads
- Spec sheet falls a little short vs similarly-priced rivals — base builds use heavy alloy training wheels (2 kg+) and basic tyres that beg an upgrade
- Alloy cockpit/clip-on extensions are not as aerodynamically refined as a fully integrated proprietary cockpit
- External, somewhat messy cable routing at the stem area on older builds
- Limited vertical stack adjustment for very aggressive fits — true elites are better served by the P5
- 2025 base price rose ~$1,000 over 2024, eroding some of its value-leader advantage
