Twostroke
Origin
The Twostroke is BMC's cross-country hardtail line, built around the brand's 'Tuned Compliance Concept' carbon technology borrowed from its road bikes, which tunes the layup and a D-shaped seatpost/seat tube to flex vertically and fore-aft for comfort without a rear shock. It is offered in both premium carbon (Twostroke 01) and aluminium (Twostroke AL) frames. The 2026 relaunch pushed the geometry more progressive — slacker 66° head angle, longer reach, 100–120 mm fork compatibility — to suit modern XC where 'races are won on the descents too', while staying a deliberately non-electric, simple machine.

The verdict
- Light, stiff, responsive frame giving explosive acceleration and precise XC handling
- Tuned Compliance Concept (flexing chainstays + D-shaped seatpost) adds real comfort without a rear shock
- Progressive 2026 geometry (66° HA, longer reach) makes it capable on descents, not just climbs
- Competitively priced — carbon from €2,999, alloy AL line cheaper still
- Versatile: up to 2.4" tyre clearance, usable as fast XC or gravel-adjacent bike
- D-shaped/non-round seatpost makes fitting a dropper difficult — needs a BMC shim and a specific 27.2 mm internally-routed dropper
- Wide seatstays can cause calf/ankle rub for some riders
- BMC prioritised stiffness over ultra-low weight, so frames are heavier than sub-1000 g rivals (alloy ~1850 g)
- Limited seat-tube and rear-triangle tyre clearance reported by some users
- Hardtail rear gives less grip and comfort on rough descents than full-suspension XC bikes
