Origin

The Teammachine is BMC's flagship road race platform from Grenchen, Switzerland, with the SLR designation marking the lightweight climbing-focused line. The 2026 model is the fifth generation of the SLR, in which BMC modernised the bike with fully integrated cable routing and aero tube shaping borrowed from the aero-focused Teammachine R, while dropping the entry price to €2,999. It is the race weapon of Tudor Pro Cycling and has been ridden by riders such as Julian Alaphilippe.

The verdict

+Strengths
  • Very low weight — flagship build sits at the UCI limit, excellent for climbing.
  • Stiff frame with sharp, precise, pinpoint-accurate handling, especially on high-speed descents and tight corners.
  • Aero refinement borrowed from the Teammachine R closes the gap to dedicated aero bikes to ~4%.
  • More comfortable and forgiving than the firmer Teammachine R, broadening appeal beyond pure racers.
  • Much cheaper entry point (from €2,999) with fully integrated cable routing now available on Advanced Carbon builds.
Weaknesses
  • Stock ICS Carbon Evo cockpit is criticised as too wide (400 mm tops) and the +20 mm rise makes the front end unnecessarily tall for a modern race bike.
  • Stock 26 mm tyres feel dated given the frame clears up to 32 mm.
  • Firm, communicative ride that favours active engagement over comfort — not ideal for endurance/comfort-seeking riders.
  • Fully integrated headset cable routing makes maintenance and fit adjustments more involved.
  • Advanced Carbon builds carry a lower stiffness-to-weight ratio and noticeably higher weight (~8 kg+) than the 01 frames.
