Specialized sought to create an e-road bike that didn't feel like riding a tank when the motor cut out at 25km/h. The SL 1.1 motor was developed to be lightweight and frictionless. With the Creo 2, they acknowledged that e-road riders prefer gravel and comfort, shifting the geometry and tire clearance towards mixed-surface riding. Gen 1 (2019-2023): Launch of SL 1.1 motor, setting benchmark for lightweight e-road. Gen 2 (2023-present): Turbo Creo 2 launch: SL 1.2 motor (more torque, quieter), shift towards gravel capability, Future Shock 3.0.
