The eScultura arrived in 2020 as Merida's answer to a simple question: can an e-road bike feel like a real road bike? The MAHLE ebikemotion hub drive system was chosen precisely because it doesn't interrupt pedalling above 25 km/h — the rear hub freewheels cleanly, unlike mid-drive motors that add friction. The result looks and rides much like the conventional Scultura, with the battery hidden in the down tube and the only visible tell being the iWoc button on the top tube.

- Versatile tyre clearance (up to 45 mm) makes it genuinely useful for mixed-surface commuting and touring

- 250 Wh battery is small by e-bike standards — real-world range of ~75 km means longer riders need the range extender
- Aluminium frame (not carbon) at this price point; the Scultura's CF5 carbon is not available in e-road form
- Hub motor torque (40 Nm) is lower than mid-drive competitors — noticeable on very steep climbs
